Pragna, age 20, plans to become a teacher

Pragna, age 20, is studying for a degree and plans to be a teacher

Before coming to the hostel, I went to a rural school 9km from my home. After my mother died, my father could not cope with four children, and as a village daughter I was going to have to give up my studies, marry, and work as a menial labourer in any job I could get.

But Mukti Trust has given me independence and helped me break away from poverty. I understand now how important education is. As well as the academic subjects, I learned about personal hygiene, cleanliness and health. Now when I go back to my village I teach the girls these things.

I am now studying for my Bachelor of Commerce degree. I intend to continue my studies and become a teacher, earning a good salary and helping out my family members. Coming to the hostel was a turning point in my life, and a precious gift. I will never forget this kindness.
